According to United Egg Producers, in the United States, an average of 250 eggs are consumed per person every year. Of these, a large majority of people throw away the eggshell, averaging over 500,000 metric tons of eggshell waste in U.S. homes alone, taking up a large amount of space in landfills, which could be reused for their rich nutrients.
These statistics came from the United Egg producers and statista, showing the per capita consumption of eggs, which could then be used to calculate the amount eggshell waste by American consumption of eggs. These statistics prove the amount of eggshell waste being produced by Americans, and the issue of resulting from the large amount of waste.
