This is easily one of the driest winters I have ever experienced. We had two major snowstorms in Oct. and Dec. but ever since, the ground has been dry, crusty and frozen. Not only do us New Englanders have to go through a cold January, but one without the fun of snow. I classify light snow as any snowfall that immediately melts, not causing a noticeable layer of snow.

The Storm of 1/27:
Yesterday, the 26th hosted the first major snowfall of this January. It broke the dry spell by dumping 6 inches of snow on the entire Boston area. The storm took a break in the evening, but then continued this morning. Tufted titmouse, Chickadees and Crows are still very active today, despite the weather. I also am finding a ton of rodent footprints. Hemlock branches are coated with snow (Background Pic)
When this melts, It will help give spring the moisture it needs to go off like a bomb in a few months.
I'm guessing the snow will be gone by Friday.
