They prefer part shade to shade, and are especially nice when grown on a shady porch. They are easy care and will dead-head themselves, but cutting them back in mid-summer when they become leggy will encourage bushier growth and more flowers. A classic favorite, petunias are very easy to grow in full sun. Shorter varieties perform well in hanging baskets. For best performance, deadhead the plants regularly. They respond well to a weekly application of liquid fertilizer and a bit of extra water during extended dry spells.
