My first experience with shooting was when I joined the US Navy in 2011. There I got a very basic foundation of shooting, qualifying on pistol, shotgun, M16, 50. cal., and 240.
In 2016, I bought my first gun. Though I had some training from the military, I was very much still a beginner to firearms. Like a lot of folks, I would go to an indoor range and shoot some paper for fun. Training wasn't really at the forefront of my range time.
I slowly gathered a small collection of firearms, but I did not start seriously start training until 2019. I took several classes myself and gained a deeper knowledge of shooting. I started participating in run-and-gun shoots and amateur competitions with the American Legion Post 283.
Once I started run-and-gun and competition style shooting, I was hooked. I would hit the range once or twice a month, with each session about improving my skills.
I had had several people in my life ask me to take them shooting so they could learn. I'd been honored and surprised by the amount of people asking me about firearms that decided to formally set up shop to help the beginners of the world get into my favorite hobby.
Instructing was always a goal for me, so I took the CRPA's instructor course and made it official. I am several classes in and I am always humbled and learning from my students.
