Fourth-grade nightly homework will consist of the following assignments accessible through Clever. Students who complete the minimums will earn "Fun Friday." Students who meet or exceed the recommended assignment guidelines will be rewarded with incentives such as greater access to games on Thursday/Friday during "May do" time, potential for getting a bean bag chair for the day, tickets for the the prize tub drawing etc.
Lexia Core 5 reading: Visit your child's Lexia app. You can monitor your child's progress on the home screen. They should complete 2 units a day minimum, Monday through Friday. We will be looking for 10 units a week completed minimum. However, I highly recommend students complete 20 units per week. Students who are below level 16 (the 1st 4th grade level) should strive for 30 units per week.
iReady math: Visit your child's iReady app. You can monitor your child's progress on the home screen by pressing "Completed Work" and "My Progress". If they are placed at the 4th grade level following the diagnostic, they should have at least 3 passing lessons at the end of the week (scores will be green, if they passed). If they are beyond the 4th grade level, I will require only 2 passing lessons per week. If they place below the 4th grade level, they will need to complete 5 passing lessons per week.

If you feel that your child is having difficulty with their homework, please let me know right away so we can work together to help them be successful. I will also modify the workload for students who reach advanced levels in the programs, as the lesson become more rigorous.

**i-Ready allows us to meet your child exactly where they are and gives us data to increase their learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction. The i-Ready Diagnostic (given at the beginning of the year) is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child's needs. Each item they see is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. If your child was lower than expected, it could be that they may have not focused or truly worked to their potential. It is also a “computer/iPad” assessment and some children don’t do as well on these types of assessments as they may on paper/pencil type assessments. The nice thing is, that we do have several diagnostics over the year, which should show gains as they progress through the personalized instruction.
The i-Ready Personalized Instruction (homework) will provide your child with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs, so they can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep them engaged as they learn. Parent help should NOT be given while your child works through the curriculum.
As with all curricula, this is just one tool we use to assess “grades” and needs. When students are consistently doing this homework, we hope that they will make academic gains as they progress through the year. (We do use several other assessments/tools to assess where the kids are throughout the year, not just Lexia or iReady😊)
