DARKCAT Privacy Policy
Effective date: 25 September 2026
This policy explains how the DARKCAT Chrome extension handles information.
Information processed on your device
DARKCAT reads the address and styling of webpages where it runs so it can select and apply a dark theme. It processes webpage content and browsing activity locally for this user-facing feature. It does not send your browsing history, page content, or visited-site addresses to a DARKCAT-operated server.
DARKCAT may request stylesheet resources from the website origins referenced by a page. Those requests go to the respective website origins and may expose ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and request headers, to those sites.
The extension stores preferences, site rules, and custom theme settings in Chrome extension storage. Settings synchronization is enabled by default. When Chrome Sync is available and enabled, Chrome may synchronize this information through the Google account associated with the browser. You can turn off settings synchronization in DARKCAT settings; settings will then remain local.
DARKCAT also records the installation version and date in extension storage to support its interface. It does not request or store email addresses or activation keys.
Configuration downloads
If you enable synchronized site-fix configuration, DARKCAT downloads theme configuration files from the Dark Reader project's public GitHub repository. These requests retrieve configuration files and do not include your current website address in the request URL. GitHub may receive ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, under GitHub's privacy practices.
Sharing, retention, and security
DARKCAT does not sell personal information, use analytics or advertising trackers, or share browsing data with advertisers. Settings remain in Chrome extension storage until you delete them, uninstall the extension, or Chrome removes its local or synchronized extension data. Chrome Sync and GitHub handle information under their own terms and privacy policies.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
DARKCAT uses webpage addresses, styles, and related content only as needed to apply the dark theme and provide user-controlled appearance settings. It does not use this information for advertising, credit decisions, sale, or unrelated purposes. It does not transfer browsing data to DARKCAT-operated servers.
Changes and contact
This policy may be updated when DARKCAT's data handling changes. Privacy questions or data requests: iskfcu@gmail.com

Chrome Web Store Limited Use
