This year, our theme is "Fostering Innovation"
For this event, our theme is “Fostering Innovation,” which could focus on different practices, pedagogies, or priorities in the classroom. With recent technological advancements, innovation in the writing classroom is no longer optional - it’s essential. As writing teachers in both higher education and the K-12 system navigate rapidly changing technologies and shifting students’ needs, we are continually challenged to rethink our practices and priorities. We invite proposals that explore how writing instructors from different grade levels foster innovation in their classrooms. We welcome proposals that are rooted in classroom practices and that reimagine traditional approaches and highlight creative solutions to persistent challenges in the teaching of writing.
Some questions that proposals might address include:
How can writing instructors / teachers design learning experiences that encourage creative risk-taking, experimentation, and curiosity?
What innovative classroom strategies support diverse learners and learning contexts?
How are emerging technologies, including AI, reshaping writing instruction, assessment, and teacher/ student identity?
What models exist for integrating digital tools in ways that empower rather than overwhelm students?
How can innovation be used to create more inclusive writing spaces?
Presentation Formats:
Panel Discussions: 20-30 minute sharing a teaching practice. Presenters will be expected to discuss/describe a teaching strategy or practice.
Teaching Workshop: 60 minute sharing a teaching strategy with examples of student work. Presenters will lead a hands-on workshop, sharing an example of a teaching strategy that may include a demonstration, handout, and student work.
Roundtable Discussions: 60 min, 3-4 presenters discussing a specific teaching practice. Presenters will be expected to discuss a teaching strategy or practice from different perspectives.

Relevance: Does this presentation apply to different class formats as well as to a diverse range of students' needs?
Equity and Inclusion: How does this presentation support teachers and/or students from different backgrounds and underrepresented communities?
Thematic Alignment: How does this proposal incorporate one or more of the elements of the theme (Fostering Student Growth: Supporting Students, Together)?
