Thermochemical and biological conversion of biomass to energy

Biomass is organic material that comes from plants and animals, and it is a renewable source of energy. Biomass contains stored energy from the sun, which is absorbed during photosynthesis. When biomass is burned, the chemical energy in biomass is released as heat and it can also be converted into various forms of energy carriers. This talk will cover the thermal conversion of biomass materials through gasification for electricity generation, and the biological conversion of biomass materials through biogas digestion. Practical examples will form part of the talk.
