FAQ

  • When can I register with Chinese school?

Generally speaking, registration starts at least one month before class starts. For fall semester, registration is open in early July, and for spring semester, registration starts right after thanksgiving holiday in the previous year. Please make sure to register online by the due dates to avoid the late fee of $10 per student.


  • How much is the tuition?

Currently, the tuition for each student per semester (thirteen 2-hour class/activity meetings) is $130 plus $10 activity fee. If it is your first time to Chinese school, there is a $10 one-time registration fee for each student. The tuition does not include book fee. Book fee for this year is $35.


  • What are the school hours?

The classes are from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on school days. When there are school activities, they will be performed by students 40 minutes before or after school time on school days. Please come to school 5 minutes earlier than the class begins, and pick up (if necessary) no later than 10 minutes after class is over. In case that there are extra-curriculum activities, school will last till no later than 4 o'clock. Parents/guardians will be notified of the extended hours in advance so that you can arrange pick up accordingly.


  • Where is Fort Wayne Chinese school?

Chinese school is located at Homestead High School, 4310 Homestead Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46814. You can get into the building via door 32. Here is a google map of the school. The school map is shown at the bottom of this page.


  • I missed the due date for registration, can I still register?

Yes, you can still register online. Please include additional $25 late fee in your payment.


  • How will I know if school is closed in case of inclement weather?

If school is closed due to weather, it will be updated on the home page. You will also be notified via WeChat, text , or email that you provided upon registration.


  • Can I make payment online?

Yes! You can use PayPal to pay to fortwaynechineseschool@gmail.com. Making sure to add your student's name with your PayPal payment! We accept check, money order, or cash payment also. You can give your payment to your teacher on the first day of school at the beginning of each semester.


  • What curriculum do you offer?

We have curriculum tailored to students of all ages and different levels of Chinese language proficiency- no matter whether you have native Chinese-speaking family member(s) or you do not speak Chinese at all.


  • Do you have other cultural activities rather than the Chinese language at school?

Yes, we do. In addition to the language, we from time to time have other cultural activities including, but not limited to, Chinese arts, Chinese music, Chinese folk dance, Tai chi, and Chinese cuisine.


  • My child is 4 years old, can she/he attend Chinese class?

We generally do not encourage children under five years old to come to Chinese school, but if your child has strong self-discipline and has shown strong interest in learning Chinese, she/he is welcomed to join the class.


  • Your class hours do not work for me, can you offer private lessons?

Yes, we can. Please submit your request via email. Make sure to include your schedule so that we can do our best to find a teacher who can fit in. However, we cannot guarantee that you will get private lessons.


  • Can I sit in the classroom while my child is taking class?

We generally do not encourage parent to sit in the classroom. Please check with your child's teacher to see if it is OK. While you are in the classroom, please remain in the back with all electronic devices turned off or vibrate. Please also respect the teacher by not talking loudly or walking around.


  • When is the snack time?

In order for our students to remain active in the two-hour session, we have a 10-15-minute snack time break (starting around 2:30 pm and may slightly vary from class to class) on school days.


  • Who provides snack for the students?

Snack are provided by the families whose member(s) is taking class at Chinese school. Two families will prepare the snack and drink for 55 students each school day. Your teacher will let you know of your schedule. If you have questions, please ask your teacher or our snack coordinator.

Some families will be assigned to bring moon cakes or dishes/cakes/fruits/chips to the Chinese New Year Celebration Party.


  • What can I bring for snacks to school?

We ask our families to prepare healthy and nutritious snack such as crackers, rice bar, cheese, fruit, and drinks for all students, single-packaged drink such as Capri Sun is also welcomed. The Chinese school will NOT prepare paper plates, cups and napkin for serving. Please do not prepare cupcake, candy, food with frosting, or soda.
