The organic waste is transferred to a storage pit awaiting processing through a double-sealed area and kept under vacuum to prevent the spread of smells. From this pit an orange peel grapple, installed on a bridge crane, conveys the waste to the digesters after shredding and removing foreign materials. The plant includes 4 anaerobic digesters with a capacity of 2000 cubic meters each. The residence time of the waste in the digester ranges from 21 to 23 days. After the first phase, the material leaving the digesters is added to the suitably chopped green clippings and prunings and the mixture is sent to the 20 biocells with a capacity of about 650 cubic meters where aerobic oxidation takes place for about 15 days. After which the material is sent to the area of 5300 square meters where the maturation takes place for about 46 days. At the end, after the refining operations, the compost is stored in a special section of 2160 square meters. The maximum storage amounts to 5616 tons, equal to about 33 days of input.
