NHMS Jazz Band ’25-‘26
The NHMS Jazz Band is starting up again and I hope you will consider joining us.
The Jazz Band exists to provide middle school music students with an opportunity to learn about jazz music and to gain some basic performance skills in this style. Jazz is an original American art form and is a fundamental part of our American culture. Middle school students are at the prime age for learning to play jazz. Students who are hoping to join the High School Jazz Ensemble are strongly encouraged to join the NHMS Jazz Band.
The Jazz Band is open to instrumentalists currently enrolled in a NHMS music ensemble. They may play a traditional jazz instrument (trumpet, trombone, saxophone). Rhythm section includes piano, bass (double bass or electric), guitar (must read chord notation), percussion: drum-set/mallets) or one of the following: flute, clarinet, French horn, baritone B.C., tuba, violin, cello. ***Rhythm section players need to understand that students will rotate between drum set, mallets, and auxiliary percussion.
The Jazz Band meets on Thursdays, 2:50 to 3:50 PM in the NHMS band room. Please pick up your student by 4:00pm at the front of school. Be on time picking up your student. Rehearsal dates listed in the chart below.
The participation fee is $12 and includes a jazz band t-shirt that will be used at the Jazz Coffee House performance.
