St. Thomas Layouts

Canadian Pacific Modeling and Industrial Modeling

Rick Mason

Description: A lot has changed on this freelanced version of a C.P. industrialized section of railway. Track (Micro Engineering code 83) is 95% complete on this 23’ x 14’ L shaped layout. Huge industry dominates, mostly scratch built or heavily kitbashed, including a very large refinery, huge blast furnace, coke ovens and grain elevators plus other related buildings. Also new is a unit train of O.N.R. and C.N.R. barrel ore cars (Sylvan kits) that ran in the 70’s to feed the furnace at Hamilton, ON.

Ontario Northland

Wilf Rhyness

This is Wilf’s second layout. The main theme is based on iron ore unit trains of short barrel ore cars (Sylvan kits) traveling from a scratch built pellet loader at Sherman Mine to a blast furnace which is under construction. Passenger service consists of a Northlander Tee train and the Polar Bear Express. He has created some realistic rock faces and hand-painted some northern backdrops.

There will be between three to four private layouts open Saturday afternoon, after the tours to ECRM.

London Layouts

Canadian Pacific, Melrose Subdivision

Marg & Dick Walker

This layout is an operating historical display depicting CPR operations in the mid-1950s. Featured is a model of a portion of the yard facilities at Woodstock, Ontario, as they appeared back then. A loop through freelanced SW-Ontario scenery fills the other side of the room. Steam and first-generation diesel locomotives are used, with most of them painted, lettered and weathered by Dick. Some scratch built railway structures from that era are featured. SW-Ontario rolling-hills scenery is created with a screen-wire/cloth/glue method, and many mini-scenes will hold your attention. Visible track is handlaid Code 70 & 55, with hand-built-in-place turnouts.

Shalebank Subdivision

Don Wesley

CP and CN share the mainline and maintenance facilities in this freelance railway, located in Southern Ontario. Mainline snakes through Colin Yard, by Ben Diesel Facility and the busy town of Charlottesville, across a country landscape, over Ben River, past Emma Freight Yard and through the quiet town of Nathan. Layout features Kato Unitrack well blended into the scenery along with hand carved rock hills and shale cuts. Numerous buildings and vehicles dot the layout. Colin Yard features roundhouse, a new turntable and surrounds, with numerous steam and diesel power. New detachable industrial module adds to the operational features of this layout. Mainline bi-direction running is supported by 5 sidings which allow safe passage as well as on the fly reversing of trains. Tunnels and hidden storage tracks round out this challenging layout. Layout features district control, auto reversing and town lighting effects.

Hamber Mountain

Vivian Dallarmi

This stop features a double loop freelance layout with scenery typical of northeastern United States. Steam and diesel power of various road names. Mostly scratchbuilt, nicely detailed structures. Make note of Music store, Appliance store and Bar with handcrafted instruments, appliances and interiors. A scratchbuilt lathe loaded on a flat car and a refinery under construction are also featured.
