What is iNaturalist? iNaturalist is a free mobile app that connects nature observers with a global community of other curious nature-lovers and researchers. On the app, you can log your nature finds (e.g., a super cool mushroom you've been looking for, or a wildflower you don't recognize). Each log entry includes your photos, notes, and locations. You can also submit your observations to specific projects, like our two Foray NL projects. When you upload an observation, iNaturalist uses your images to help suggest a species ID for your find, so new nature enthusiasts can use it as a learning tool! After you submit your observations, other users can help suggest IDs for your observations, and scientists using iNaturalist can incorporate your observations into their research projects. Pretty cool, eh? This year, we set up iNaturalist projects to help answer two research questions: (1) who is eating our lichens?; and (2) what is the hydnum diversity in NL? Search Foray NL on iNaturalist to find and join our projects!

What is included with my registration? All registrants will receive full access to our free online program. Due to covid restrictions, our in-person events will require separate registration and will be limited to (1) Foray NL members; and (2) capped at the number of attendees. Information on these events will be circulated to Foray NL members only.

Do I need to register for individual events? For all online events, no. Your one-time registration will ensure you receive a reminder and log-on details a few days before each event. For in-person events, yes. See previous question.

How do I watch the online presentations? We will be using the Zoom platform for our events. All series registrants will receive a link to each event (and a reminder) by email (the email listed on the registration form) several days before each event. Zoom is a free online meeting program can be installed on computers and mobile devices (visit your app store), or used through a browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc) on computers with no download necessary. To join a meeting, simply click the invite link in your 2021 Fungi Series event email at the scheduled event time.

Will the presentations be recorded? We respect the wishes of our presenters and some may prefer not to be recorded. All recorded presentations will be live-streamed and shared on our Facebook page, in case you cannot attend the live event.

Does the series cost anything? Generally, no. We love our fungi community and are excited to be able to share our online content with you at no cost. There may be a small fee associated with our in-person events to cover costs of hosting and running the events.

Do I need to be a member to participate in the 2021 Fungi Series? For online events, nope! Due to limited space, registration for our in-person events will only be open to Foray NL members.

How do I become a member of Foray NL? GREAT question! Registration information is available on our website, http://www.nlmushrooms.ca/. Membership is only $20/yr. Members receive advance notice of Foray NL events, as well as members-only online events from some of our sister mycological clubs in Canada and the USA.

Can I donate to Foray NL to help support this and future operations? ABSOLUTELY! Donations are always welcome by e-transfer to info@nlmushrooms.ca . Please include a note that indicates this is a donation and not a membership payment.
