Why do these accidents happen? :
Children are often left behind in school buses because guardians or supervisors fail to carefully check the number of remaining passengers. This human error, caused by carelessness or distraction, can have fatal consequences.
We asked ourselves: “Is there a way to automatically count the children, instead of relying only on adults?”
Our solution was to use ultrasonic sensors to detect boarding and exiting passengers. The passenger count would be displayed on an LED screen, making it easy to verify at a glance.
If a child remains inside the bus after everyone else has exited, the system sends a notification through a mobile app, ensuring immediate action.
We organized the necessary equipment and materials, then designed the circuit diagrams and programming code for implementation. With this preparation, we began actual construction of the system.
The completed device was installed in a miniature bus model (created as a box-shaped prototype). We tested its effectiveness in recognizing passengers, verifying the display count, and sending alerts. After confirming it worked, we identified areas for improvement and gathered feedback to refine the system further.
