Membership Announcement 01/17/2018

To all members:

Great news to everyone – We are opening a permanent second event. We are happy that our initiation, of making amateur soccer run technically similar to certain pro organizations, has been constantly gaining popularity. Our club has been growing better by quality and larger by numbers. At the same time, our efforts have been found ineffective or even gone in vain so to provide a quality experience as well as an effective development opportunity for both the senior and the new members on the same session. It is of the best interest of everyone to split our member base. Effective now, we will be dividing into two sub-groups, Academy and Senior sub-groups depending on three technical metrics.

The primary metric is the player’s game conceptual coherency to the important style characteristics of ball possession game model. In other words, player decision making should be in alignment with how a ball possession game is managed individually. A player must meet the green zone of our ball possession game scale first, before having him considered to play on the Senior event. No matter who she/he plays with on the same team, what the result is, what energy level she/he possesses. Then, she/he must also demonstrate sufficient success rate in core soccer skills. The last metrics is simply her/his past and projected attendance record. Again, how we try playing is really hard to perceive and accomplish instantly, even for ex-professionals. With only one exception, Roshan that is, every member is same dear to us, and we try doing what serves the best interest of them.

With the new, relatively new, and less active members, we will be starting up as from scratch. Just as how we used to start with many of our seniors back in July 2016. Most being there and ready together from the beginning, our seniors assembled spontaneously. Typically, it took a senior player no less than several months to be able to put out quality ball possession games one after another. By a healthy competitive edge without rivalry, we are more than eager to have some Academy players, or even the entire Academy sub-group play our Seniors every now and then as for assessment.

The Senior event will be becoming an invitation-only event as per the recommendation of our Leadership & Advisory Team. No other RSVPs will be accepted but from only those who will be recognized as Senior members. We will be putting out the names of Seniors on our Meetup website shortly. Every other member must be attending the Academy event, at least, for the first time for sure. On the Academy event, we intend to be playing an 8v8 game, as a proven good proxy to full size 11v11 soccer while it also enables a quick learning path to be able to run a healthy ball possession game. Seniors are advised not to play on the Academy event, especially when held on the same day.

In addition to these changes, every current and future member will be asked for a once-a-year membership fee of $30 (note: updated to $40 during 2018). We offer a 2-game free pass for first look-around. Absolutely no guests or drop-ins are anymore accepted. By now, we all well understand how a single non-assimilated player can negotiate the technical agenda tailored for the rest. We take our soccer seriously, we put effort in it, we have actual expenditures on equipment, resources, and we ask our members to cooperate and contribute to it. We also set up an anonymous account for donations beyond the membership fee.

We understand that our club or the ball possession game as how we brand it is not for everyone. Many might not even see a correlation in between playing a quality game and playing to a common soccer language based on a functional problem solving model. We continue not to keep ourselves obligated to maintaining anyone’s membership beyond 4 Academy games. As in the past, behavioral delinquencies that compromise our image, such as, constant swearing, heated arguments, verbal and physical abuses, leaving thrash behind, physically intimidating play, etc., will result in immediate dismissal and ban from the club.

Organization / Rules

Footyphilo recreational club is running on a pay-per-play basis.

For new members, a one-time registration fee of $40 is due before RSVPing for your first event with us. The registration fee allows RSVPing for at least two events with us, and also enables access to our technical communications on Meetup for at least month. Beyond that, your membership is subject to revision.

For existing members, you will be asked for a once-a-year membership fee of $40.

As in the past, behavioral delinquencies that compromise our image, such as, constant swearing, heated arguments, verbal and physical abuses, leaving trash behind, physically intimidating play, etc., will result in immediate dismissal and ban from the club.

Additional rules:

  • Always RSVP for the event you would like to attend.
  • Play in turf shoes or soft cleats, only.
  • Please come playing for 90 minutes or longer, enter the game warmed-up, and do not quit it early unless some emergency arises.
  • Keep continue playing until the appointed Ref intervenes, unless the situation is too obvious.
  • Only Ref can call hand-balls or tight out-of plays: No self-call on such occurrences, please.
  • Avoid committing faults – They only result in surrendered possession.
  • Avoid hard impact challenges such as sliding tackles or uncontrolled charges at opponents or elbows as those attempts do not directly serve the goal of regaining ball possession.
  • We do seek for differentiation based on technical excellence rather than by physical intimidation.
  • Avoid getting into arguments or debates – Your game and the result should not depend on a few marginal calls. We see soccer as being the game of sustained excellence instead of playing it for a decisive moment.
  • The player from whom the ball bounces out from the field please right away go and bring it back.
