Founded in 1998 by co-founders Kristi Kargic and Beth Coughlin, Footlights Community Theater in Athens, AL, began as a passion project between mother and daughter to bring the enchantment of performing arts to the local community.
In 2004, they officially incorporated, paving the way for the organization to produce and direct its inaugural plays. Over the years, Kargic and Coughlin's dedication and vision expanded Footlights' reach, leading to a transformative partnership with Athens State University's drama department. Together, they produced larger-scale productions, fostering a collaborative and dynamic theatrical environment producing both major musicals and original works.
Today, Footlights continues to evolve, forging a meaningful alliance with Athens City Schools to create community theater that not only entertains but also engages and enriches the local community through the transformative power of the performing arts.
