Eric Link - Captain/Build Team/CAD Team/Driver
I am a senior attending Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. I have been participating in the FIRST program for the past four years through both FRC and FTC teams. I can be found tinkering with a variety of activities from RC cars to computers in my free time. This is my eighth year as a clarinetist in school ensembles. My goal this season is to emphasize the role a MakerSpace can play in fostering FTC teams. We are creating guidelines that can be used to help rookie teams understand the potential and usefulness of community spaces for sharing knowledge and resources. In the picture above, I was fortunate to attend an FRC event in Zhengzhou, China in July 2017 with FRC team #3455. I visited MakerSpaces as part of this awesome experience. I have been associated with the Nova Labs MakerSpace since 2013. I am currently a Key Member and hold the following certifications: Green Tools, 3D Printing, Laser Cutter (1 & 2), CNC, Vinyl Cutter, Metal Shop Yellow, Wood Shop Yellow.
Kieran Beaumont - 2017 Dean's List Winner/Build Team/CAD Team/Driver
I am a senior attending Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. I have participated in the FIRST program, both FRC and FTC, for four years. In my free time I love to play sports (Table Tennis/Soccer) and take on design challenges such as building a hexapod or a robotic snake. My goal for this season is to show that FTC teams are not limited to the materials found in the standard kits. If teams are able to find a maker space near them with CNC machines or even just bandsaws and drill presses they can make their own custom parts to save money and create unique designs. I am also a member of FRC team #3455. In the picture above, I'm having fun with Dean and other Dean's List winners in April 2017. I hold Nova Labs certification for Green Tools.
John Link - CAD Team/Build Team/Company Outreach
I am a sophomore attending James Madison High School. I have participated in the FIRST program for the past two years but my love for tinkering has extended far past that. I built my first 3D printer 3 years ago and since then I have built 3 more for various people and applications. I am currently a 3D printer steward for Nova Labs and am charged with not only maintaining the community printers, but also helping to answer questions from community members who attend the weekly 3D printer meetings. My mission is to spread the usefulness of CAD and planning as well as the abilities to spread the world of 3D printing. Especially in FIRST competitions, rapid and inexpensive prototyping can serve a much larger role and with the cost of entry into the hobby always decreasing, the potential for innovative ideas only increases. I am also a member of FRC team #620. The picture above shows the first 3D Printer I built at Nova Labs in 2013 along with some sample product we showed at the FIRST FLL Awards Event in June 2017. This printer got me very interested in CAD. I hold Nova Labs certifications for: Green Tools, 3D Printing, Laser Cutter (1 & 2), Laser Rotary Tool, Yellow Woodshop, Red Woodshop, and Wood Lathe.
Alex Gurung - Programming Lead
Hi! I'm Alex, and I am a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. I'm a relative newcomer to the world of FIRST, I joined my first FTC team last year, but I'm looking forward to see what the coming season has to offer! I'm a programmer for 12787, and as such my interests tend to align themselves with computer science pursuits. Much of my free time is spent playing around with a variety of personal cs projects, from using RNNs to generate Gatsby-esque text in Python to writing an automated sudoku solver in Go. This season I'm hoping to better show how proper organisation and team planning can help make both the programmers' and the builders' lives much easier, as by limiting unnecessary overlap and maximizing time efficiency we can reduce conflict and better combine our efforts to make the best robot possible! I hold Nova Labs certification for Green Tools.
Jacques Brown - Build Team / CAD Team / Tooling Lead
I am currently in my senior year at Thomas Jefferson high school for science and technology. I will be entering my third year in the FIRST program this year. Ever since i was a little kid I've had a fascination with mechanical devices and their inner workings, this interest has continued throughout my life and is evident in the many project ideas i have circulating in my head each day. My goal this year is to help out the team in the mechanical and structural components of the robot through my skills at CAD and the many tools one may find in a maker space. I hold Nova Labs certification for Green Tools.
William Chen - Programming Team / Autonomous Lead
I am a junior attending Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. I have participated in FTC for the past four years and FLL for a few years before that. In my free time, I enjoy swimming and biking as well as participating in various clubs such as Science Olympiad. This year I’m hoping to experiment with various sensors outside of the standard ones used in FTC to enhance the robot’s autonomous routine and make driving the robot smoother. My goal this season is to help other teams work on their own autonomous routines to be more competitive. I hold Nova Labs certification for Green Tools.
