This resource was compiled by four student researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to complete a community project in partial fulfillment of a degree requirement. The students, Nicholas Bograd, Brett Carbonneau, Alexander Krasa, and Benjamin Preston, were engineering student in their junior year at WPI. Their majors were Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering respectively. The office of Massachusetts State Senator Harriette Chandler brought the area of study to the students, who then worked as an independent research group to create this source of information.
This resource is meant to aid potential and current food waste recycling operations in mitigating concerns that can lead to complaints from those residing near the site. It contains methods to reduce or prevent multiple issues that may arise from food waste recycling and extensive details about those strategies.
Note, this resource was finalized in May of 2017 and some of the methods laid out within it were newer technologies at the time, which may have evolved since its completion.
