Each week you will write up detailed class lecture notes that will be based on two class lectures of the previous week. For example, on Tuesday, February 6 you will write up the notes, based on the class lectures on Tuesday, January 30 and Thursday, February 1.
Each week’s lecture notes are worth 100 points. These notes will be judged based on the clarity, accuracy, and the insight demonstrated. For full credit, graphs or equations (if applicable) must be included. In addition, 10 extra credit points per lecture will be assigned if you list and describe additional (real or actual) markets where the same topic can be applied. For example, if in class I discuss the market for beef you might wish to describe a market for pork or salmon and cite your resource. Additional 10 extra credit points per lecture will be assigned if you prepare at least 3 review questions with possible answers (this could include multiple choice questions, short answer, discussion questions, etc.)
In this assignment, you will explore and familiarize yourself with the robust suite of software called Google Drive.
Over the last few years, Google has developed some handy products students may find quite useful in college. In this course, you will use Google Drive to develop your assignments as well as collaborate with your peers. The best thing about Google Drive is it’s free, easy to use, and compatible with other desktop applications.
Most students are familiar with Microsoft Office, but in order to utilize Office, you have to pay for the software (about $100) or have access to it (via a campus computer). Another issue is accessing, saving, and backing up files. Many students find Google Drive a simple, efficient, and effective alternative to Microsoft Office because anything you create in your Google Drive is accessible on any device with an Internet connection. Also convenient is Google Drive autosaves every few seconds, so you never have to worry about losing content in your file.
You will be posting your weekly lecture notes on your own personal website. The goal of this exercise will be to create an open educational resource that other students and people might use in the future. In this class you will not simply be a consumer of knowledge, but also a creator of knowledge.
Here are some basic steps to create your Google Site Webpage.
Use Google Drive (From Google Drive) option and select your file to be added to your webpage.
If you are using this option, you can skip step 10 above, since you don’t need to save the drawing separately on your computer.
7. Click “PUBLISH” – and select the web address name
8. Use the “Eye” icon to preview your site and use the “Link” icon to see the url address for your site.
9. Send me the link to your website in order to get points for this assignment
Play around with your site and make is as personal as possible. Think about how you will organize your class lecture notes so that it will all make sense and will be easily assessible and follow the flow of the class.
