The San Diego Public Library is a Department of the City of San Diego, and its budget is determined annually during the City budgeting process. The Library has been woefully underfunded for decades, which is why we continue to have maintenance issues at North Clairemont, and why holds times on books are so long. And now we're closed on Mondays, as well.
We can and must take action to make sure that the City prioritizes the Library going forward. Even in tight times, libraries are essential to communities! Join us in our fight to increase the library budget and restore our hours!
You can help by:
mentioning libraries every time you run into our elected officials (or their staff members) at events (see City Council and Mayor's office for lists); all of the Clairemont library branches are in City Council District 2)
contacting your Councilmember and the Mayor and letting them know how important libraries are to you
filling out postcards at our events
following the City Budget process and submitting comments when appropriate
signing up for the Library Foundation SD's advocacy alerts
Our library depends on you!
