WHAT (THE EXPERIENCE)
In collaboration with a colleague, I co-wrote, designed, and produced a Public Service Announcement (PSA) titled "Feed the Change this Ramadan: Local Tradition, Global Impact." This artifact served as a bridge between the spiritual traditions of Ramadan and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By targeting the "Food Waste Paradox"—the spike in waste during a month centered on fasting—I led the development of the "One Plate Rule" as an actionable solution. My design process was defined by a commitment to Lifelong Learning Leadership, specifically through my pursuit of inclusive pedagogy; I personally integrated synchronized captioning and a sign language interpreter to ensure our call to action was accessible to all members of our community.
SO WHAT (THE IMPORTANCE)
This project stands as a testament to my evolving practice as a leader who bridges the gap between abstract global goals and personal responsibility. By aligning environmental stewardship with the religious values of moderation, empathy, and charity (Esposito, 2011), I demonstrated my ability to transform logistical challenges into social imperatives. Through this process, I addressed SDG 12, SDG 2, and SDG 1 (United Nations, 2015). My leadership in this project was not just about content; it was about modeling an inclusive framework where accessibility is non-negotiable. I realized that my growth as a leader is inextricably linked to my willingness to learn new accessibility technologies and apply them to instructional media, ensuring that sustainability is never achieved at the expense of social equity.
NOW WHAT (THE FUTURE APPLICATION)
My work on this PSA has solidified my trajectory as an educational leader dedicated to ongoing professional growth and inclusive system-building:
Advancing Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy: I am committed to the lifelong learning process of connecting international frameworks (like the SDGs) with localized spiritual and historical narratives, ensuring global citizenship remains relevant and accessible to my community.
Integrating Universal Design as Leadership Practice: I have adopted Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as a core competency. I no longer view accessibility features as "add-ons," but as foundational components of my leadership, and I am now advocating for this shift in design standards across the Nurafshon Presidential School.
Fostering Student Agency through Mentorship: I am translating the mechanics of this PSA into a classroom framework where I mentor students to analyze global crises. My goal is to facilitate their development into engineers of localized, digitally literate media campaigns, thereby extending my own learning outcomes to empower the next generation of global citizens.
