Name of Love

“The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

I will bless the name of love

I will bless the love that gives 

I will bless the love that takes 

I will bless the one who creates

He creates life with His loving hand

He allows death to show His master plan

I will bless the prince of peace

If there was no storm, how could He calm it?

If there was no war, how could He win it?

I will bless my gentle shepherd.

Why are the still waters beyond the valley of shadow?

So we would hold His hand more tightly 

feel His love more closely 

and trust His plan more fully

I will bless the God who cries

He could shield us from the rain of trial

but instead He draws us close 

holds us tight

and mixed with cold drops of pain 

are His warm tears of love 

for He joins in our sorrow.

I will bless the name of love 

I will bless the love that gives 

I will bless the love that takes

Name of Love was written while I was processing the grief of a miscarriage that my wife and I experienced in April 2023.

These words are my testimony of God's presence and plan in our suffering.
