Focus Ring (“we”, “the extension”) is a browser productivity extension that helps you understand how you use your time in Chrome. This policy explains what information the extension processes, how it is used, and your choices.
Summary: Focus Ring stores data only on your device. We do not sell your data, use third-party analytics, or require an account.
To provide its features, Focus Ring may process the following locally on your computer:
Website URLs and domains of tabs you visit
Tab titles
Start time, end time, and duration of active tab sessions
Number of tab switches
Signs of interaction on the active page (e.g. scroll, click, key press, limited mouse movement) to estimate engaged vs. passive time
The extension does not record what you type, passwords, or the text content of pages
Pomodoro timer records (phase, duration, completion, tab switches during focus blocks)
Breathing break records (preset, duration, completion)
Your focus balance score and daily statistics derived from the above
Alert limits (e.g. tab switches per 10 minutes)
Pomodoro timer lengths
Recovery/break timer state
All data is used only to:
Track active time per tab and site
Show dashboards, timelines, and history
Calculate your local focus balance score
Run pomodoro timers and breathing breaks
Send optional Chrome notifications (tab-switch reminders, pomodoro phase alerts)
Export and import your data via CSV when you choose to
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or purposes unrelated to the extension’s single purpose.
IndexedDB — session history, breathing sessions, pomodoro records
Chrome local storage — settings and in-progress timer state
Data remains on your device unless you export it (e.g. CSV download) or uninstall the extension.
We do not:
Sell or rent your data
Transfer your data to third parties for their own purposes
Upload your browsing history or activity to our servers
Focus Ring has no backend server for user data in normal operation.
Permission
Purpose
Tabs
Detect the active tab, read URL/title for time tracking, count tab switches
Idle
Pause tracking when you are away from the computer
Storage
Save history, settings, and timer state locally
Notifications
Optional alerts for high tab switching and pomodoro phases
Alarms
Run pomodoro timers reliably in the background
Host access (content script)
Detect basic interaction on open pages to measure engaged time; does not read page content
You may export your data to a CSV file on your device or import a CSV you previously exported. Import skips duplicate records. You control these files after export.
Data is kept until you delete it in the extension (Data panel: clear by date or clear all) or uninstall Focus Ring.
Uninstalling the extension removes locally stored extension data from Chrome subject to browser behavior.
Focus Ring is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data is stored using Chrome’s extension storage mechanisms on your device. No method of local storage is 100% secure; keep your device and Chrome profile protected.
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the extension after changes means you accept the updated policy.
Because data stays on your device, you can access, export, or delete it through the extension at any time.
