We are Focus, and we’ve identified a problem: the way we look after our health is far too fragmented.
You get the flu, you see a GP. Pull a muscle? Physiotherapist. Want to build strength? Gym. Want to eat better? Nutritionist. For every single aspect of your health, you are expected to research the best practices, shop around, and manage it all yourself. It takes time that you could have spent doing the things you love.
You trust an accountant with your finances and a chef with the flavour of your food. At Focus, our ultimate vision is to give everyday people, parents, professionals, whoever you are, a simple, unified way to holistically look after your health.
Why Calisthenics?
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Focus. We are starting at the core foundation: building physical strength through movement.
Our mind and body are intimately linked. When we get the body moving, the mind inevitably follows.
The word Calisthenics comes from the ancient Greek words kallos (beauty) and sthenos (strength), translating directly to “beautiful strength”. Long before gym memberships and complex machinery existed, ancient civilisations relied on calisthenics as a way to build elite human performance. It seems fitting we start here too.
The missing 87%...
We’ve been told for decades about the benefits of regular exercise. The NHS says that regular physical activity can lower the risk of early death by up to 30% and drastically reduce the risk of major illnesses like heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes [1].
Yet according to Sport England’s Active Lives Survey, over 35% of adults are classified as inactive [2], and YouGov research shows that only 13% of the UK population holds a gym membership [3].
There is a huge stigma in society that getting fit requires running or lifting weights in a gym. That works for some, but for the other 87% of people, there has to be a better way.
Focus Calisthenics offers structured group classes designed to help you build strength, mobility and flexibility using nothing more than your own weight. We are not anti-gym; we are pro-movement. We want to help you build accessible habits you can practice anywhere, with anyone, at anytime.
Removing the Barriers
When attempting something new or challenging, every point of friction increases the chance you’ll give up. We’ve designed Focus Calisthenics specifically to remove the common barriers between you and your movement:
Zero Equipment Needed: Forgetting equipment or even a change of footwear shouldn’t stop your workout. All you need is comfortable clothes, and we will provide high-quality mats and movement that relies entirely on your bodyweight.
45-Minute Efficiency: You shouldn’t have to sacrifice hours of your day to stay fit. The warm up, workout and cool down are all done within 45 minutes so you can get your movement in and get back to your life.
Flexible payments: Not everyone wants to be forced into a membership. Whether you prefer pay-as-you-go flexibility or structured class packs, we offer payment options that fit your actual schedule.
First class free: The first step is one of the hardest, and to congratulate you on yours, your first class with us is free.
Sensory Conditioning
Stimulating the senses triggers the body. We intentionally pair specific sounds, lighting, and scents with your training to create a positive neurological association with working out:
Sound: We work out to lively drum and bass music to help keep the vibes high. Even on days when you arrive feeling tired, your brain quickly pairs the rhythm with feeling energised and ready to move.
Lighting (Focus Environment): Our ideal class setting is dimly lit and illuminated by the colour of your class (Purple, Blue or Red). It’s bright enough to see your instructor, but subtle enough that you can focus on your own movement without feeling judged under bright fluorescent lights.
Aroma: Every mat is prepped with our signature Patchouli & Cedarwood spray. Over time, this natural aroma acts as a sensory anchor, instantly grounding you and resetting your focus the moment you step onto the mat.
Built on Community and Accountability
There are millions of free workouts available online, but most people aren’t lacking content, they’re lacking accountability.
Home workouts fail because no one knows when you skip them. Focus exists to give you a genuine community of like-minded people who value their health and support each other’s progress.
Scalable Movements for Every Fitness Level
In our Blue and Purple classes, we grade every exercise from level 1 to level 3.
Level 1 (Foundational): Originally designed for my 68 year old dad when he wanted to start calisthenics. Perfect for beginners starting their movement journey.
Level 2 (Intermediate): Adds progression and complexity as your consistency grows.
Level 3 (Advanced): Pushes the limits. Very few participants complete an entire class at Level 3, always giving you something to aim for.
Because every movement is scalable, people from different fitness levels can train side-by-side in the same session, growing stronger together.
So What?
Health shouldn’t be complicated, fragmentated, or intimidating. Everyone deserves an accessible, enjoyable and sustainable way to look after their physical and mental well-being. Focus Calisthenics is just the beginning of our journey and we’d love for you to be a part of it. Move with purpose; train with Focus.
