Qatar Airways was founded in 1993 by the government of Qatar and began operations in January 1994. After initially being a member of Gulf Air, Qatar withdrew to form its own national carrier. Since its launch, the airline has grown significantly, expanding its fleet and route network to become a major global airline based in Doha, operating under the Qatar Airways Group.

• 1994: Began operations in January, with passenger flights starting in May to destinations including Amman. 

• 1995: Had a small fleet of two Airbus A310s and expanded its route network. 

• 1997: Was re-launched as the national carrier. 

• 1990s: Acquired larger aircraft like the Boeing 747s to support its expansion. 

• 2002: Qatar withdrew from its joint-ownership of Gulf Air. 

• 2019: Introduced the Qsuite, a business class product with private suites and double beds. 

• 2020: Navigated the challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic, continuing to operate and expand its network. 

• 2025: Achieved its strongest fiscal year in terms of profit, partly due to high travel demand and strategic investments.
