Ms. Malathi Baskar is a nanomaterial researcher who researches in the field of gas sensing applications and photocatalysts. She joined Functional Materials and Energy Devices, SRMIST (formerly known as SRM University) in June 2020 as a Doctoral fellow. She completed her master’s course in General physics from Kanchi Mamunivar Post Graduate Centre for Research, Pondicherry and her bachelor’s course from Bharathidasan Government College for Women, Pondicherry. She completed the CSIR project based on the Conversion of Carbon-di-oxide into fuel and also the production of bio manure from related by-products.  She gained experience in material science from an internship offered by the Department of Nuclear Physics, University of Madras and astrophysics projects from master’s course college. She is more experienced in fabricating nanomaterials through physical and chemical methods and has also experience in handling characterization instruments like XRD, RAMAN, UV, SEM, TEM, BET and XPS. In FMED, she is equipped on handling spray pyrolysis and homemade gas sensing setup. Malathi’s focus on research during her doctoral course is “Identifying the gas sensing properties of MoS2 (Molybdenum disulfide) and unique composites like PbS, In2S3, SnS2, WS2, g-C3N4 and NGQD via hydrothermal method towards NO2 detection and also finding the photocatalytic properties of g-C3N4/SnS2 nanocomposites towards dye degradation”. She presented her research works at some reputed conferences and workshops.
