This project, located in the picturesque river bottoms of the Bear River, involved a comprehensive exterior remodel. During our initial site visit, we quickly identified significant water damage that required immediate attention. After carefully evaluating potential solutions, we determined that the best course of action was to fully remove the existing soffit and fascia, extract the columns, and replace the compromised structure.
To ensure stability, we braced the roof after removing the columns. The original columns were hollow, so we reinforced them by installing treated wood posts inside, elevating them off the ground to prevent future water damage. We then replaced the reed board with shiplap for a refined look, followed by a fresh coat of paint for the entire structure.
Given the client's firm deadline due to upcoming events at this stunning location, we worked diligently to complete the project on time. Our team excelled under pressure, delivering a finished product that met the highest standards of craftsmanship and was ready ahead of schedule.
Before
Beginning in May 2024, the primary issue identified was wood rot on the east side of the building, which compromised the structural integrity. Additional problems included a deteriorating roof, water leaks, space limitations, and an overall unappealing aesthetic.
Demolition And Bracing
To begin the process, we removed all of the old beams, soffit, and reed board, then braced the roof to expose the rotting wood. This allowed us to reinforce the structure and address the underlying issues.
Landscaping
After consulting with the customer, we decided to include a landscaping plan in the scope of work. We began by clearing away excess vegetation and deadfall around the house. Next, we brought in mulch and sod to repair and fill the damaged areas.
Rebuild
Once the demolition was complete, we rebuilt the structure. We reinforced the roof with treated posts, rebuilt the soffit, and replaced the reed board with shiplap. Additionally, we installed can lights and sconces to enhance the lighting in the space.
Paint and Final Touchups
Painting the structure after the rebuild was a breeze. We decided to paint the entire house, not just the rebuilt section. Our team worked professionally and efficiently, and the fresh paint really brought the whole project together.
Final Completion
We love how this space turned out. It was a pleasure working on this wonderful piece of history and helping restore it to its former glory. In the side-by-side comparison with a photo from the 1920s, you can see how we aimed to stay as true to the original design as possible, while incorporating updates to ensure it lasts for generations to come.
