If you live within 3 hours of Gainesville, Florida, our guardianship program may be for you. 

A guardianship program allows you the opportunity to get a puppy at a reduced price. You sign different paperwork which will state that the dog is my legal property, but lives with you. When the dog comes into her second heat/arrives at about 18 months (for females), you will bring her to my house where she will remain until the breeding for that cycle is finished. She will spend most of her pregnancy with you. Ten days prior to her due date, you will arrange to bring her back to my house until she has whelped, raised, and weaned her litter of puppies. Upon retirement, I will pay for her spaying and she will become your legal property for the remainder of her life. Mother dogs will have 3-4 litters on average. If she does not end up having a litter of puppies, you will be responsible for paying for her spaying. 

Some things to consider:

• Are you interested in the ins and outs of breeding?

• Do you have the time and gas money to transport the mother back and forth during her breeding age?

• Are you a responsible and time-managed individual who will be able to keep track of when heat cycles are expected and detail-oriented in order to notice the (not always obvious) signs of a heat cycle beginning?

• Do you live within 3 hours of Gainvesville, Florida? (Acceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis). 

• Do you have a fully-fenced yard for the mother to enjoy? 

• Do you have altered, or are you willing to alter, dogs of the opposite gender within your home? 

• Will you be willing to keep the dog of breeding age separated from un-altered dogs (i.e., dog parks, boarding with play time, etc)? 

• I will provide you with the pick of the litter. Sometimes you will get to choose between a few puppies, while other times, I will choose the puppy up for guardianship. You will help choose the name of the dog. I am open to most names, as long as they are easy to pronounce and aren't too 'out there'! Is this something that you would be open to? 

• Are you willing to follow the rules of guardianship?
