In the final semester, students will implement their skills and obtain industry experience with a paid practicum working full-time as part of a data science team at one of our corporate partners, or at another company or organization of their choice. The practicum course will be completed under Data Science faculty supervision and is a required component of the program. At the end of the program, students would have gained the industry knowledge, technical skills, and real-world experience required to start their successful careers.

If you are interested in funding the DSSG program at UNF to strengthen the data scientist workforce pipeline while addressing pressing social needs in our community, please contact the Program Directors.

The Office of Data & Analytics (ODA) collects, analyzes and reports data concerning the State University System of Florida. The dashboards below serve as a resource to provide stakeholders with summary analysis of frequently requested and reported indicators.

DBHYDRO is the South Florida Water Management District's corporate environmental database that stores hydrologic, meteorologic, hydrogeologic and water quality data. This database is the source of historical and up-to-date environmental data for the 16-county region covered by the District.

The DBHYDRO Browser allows you to search, using one or more criteria, and to generate a summary of the data from the available period of record. You can then select data sets of interest and have the time series data dynamically displayed on your screen in tables or graphs. You can also download data to your computer for later use.

Through a series of succinct videos, participants will learn how the District collects data, what types of data are available, and the best ways to search the database. You can get started at: www.sfwmd.gov/dbhydrotraining.

The information provided through the FLRDC is available to researchers from universities, government agencies, and private institutions in Florida and beyond. In order to access this information, researchers must draft a research proposal to be submitted to the federal agency whose data they want to access for their research. A list of federal agencies providing data can be found here.

Researchers must consult with the FLRDC Administrator about the content and form of a research proposal. The administrator can assist researchers in determining data availability and in preparing worthy proposals. Graduate students who are interested in using the FLRDC should obtain an email of support from their advisors prior to initiating the proposal process. Click below to learn more about the proposal submission process and obtaining special sworn status.

On June 6, 2023, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law SB 262, which grants Florida consumers certain rights relating to the processing of their personal data by businesses. Parts of SB 262 will come into effect in 2023.

The FDBR specifically exempts from its scope businesses or organizations that are financial institutions governed by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Florida agencies or political subdivisions, entities governed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, non-profits, post-secondary educational institutions, persons processing personal data for purely personal or household activities, and persons processing data solely for advertising analytics.[6]

With regards to sensitive data, any for-profit business or organization conducting business in Florida and collecting personal data about consumers (or any entity on behalf of which such information is collected) may not engage in the sale of sensitive data without prior consumer consent.[28]

While only a limited number of large businesses conducting specific activities will be subject to the FDBR, the bill has requirements for other businesses to abide by in collecting and processing personal data.

The FDEP geospatial portal contains over 250 geodata items that can be searched, explored and downloaded directly from the site. The FGS has submitted over 60 geodata items that can be searched and downloaded. FGS Data Downloads, FDEP Data Downloads

Information associated with our geologic data is made available through our interactive Map Direct page. Additional focuses include: Subsidence Incidence Reports; Springs; Geomorphology, and Aquifer Vulnerability.

The USGS National Digital Catalog is part of ScienceBase and includes information about geologic collections from across the U.S. All metadata from projects funded by the USGS National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) are available on this site.

The greenbook collection is a compilation of 150 green 3-ring binders that are housed at the FGS. They include location information, drillers' logs, paleontology reports, and lithologic descriptions associated with the boreholes in our holdings and was our main source of data for nearly a century. A significant amount of the primary borehole data has been captured in GEODES; however, additional information and resources are in these books. These binders are now available via our Greenbook Index page.

While there is no guaranteed way for consumers to guard against a data breach, there are steps they can take to lessen the odds of becoming a breach victim. Create strong passwords by using a combination of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters. Additionally, when asked to choose a security question, choose the question that would be most difficult for someone to guess the answer.

Throughout the data science degree program, develop sought-after techniques including statistical analysis, mathematical processes, regression modeling, multivariate methods, machine learning, database management and mining, and big data analytics. These skills will enable you to produce reports, presentations and graphics that positively influence business decisions and trends.

Students who choose this track will master how to use data to make business decisions, solve problems and improve efficiency. The coursework equips students with knowledge of statistical tools and programming, mathematical and statistical algorithms and operation management. Students will be ready to implement changes, communicate results and work with various departments to make data-driven decisions.

In the health analytics track, students gain proficiency in the statistical skills needed in the healthcare industry. Learners will be trained to manage and analyze health data to address public health issues. Coursework in this track prepares students to interpret complicated data sets, use statistical and computing tools and visualize data to communicate findings. Graduates can become clinical informatics analysts, project managers in the healthcare field and more.

This course will provide further examination of statistics and data analysis beyond an introductory course. Topics covered include data visualization, point, and interval estimation, hypothesis testing of means, variances, and proportions, and linear and logistic regressions. Emphasis will be placed on conducting reproducible research. 17dc91bb1f
