dbmss: Distance-based measures of spatial structures
Marcon E., Lang G., Traissac S. et Puech F. (2012-…).
dbmss is an R package for simple computation of spatial statistic functions of distance to characterize the spatial structures of mapped objects, including classical ones (Ripley’s K and others) and more recent ones used by spatial economists (Duranton and Overman’s Kd, Marcon and Puech’s M). It relies on spatstat for some core calculation.
Mapping distributions in non-homogeneous space with distance-based methods,
Journal of Spatial Econometrics, 2023.
Authors: Marcon E. and F. Puech.
In this paper, we provide a technique to map local values when using a relative distance-based method. Our empirical analysis deals with a contagious fungal disease affecting trees in a Parisian park. Data and R code are given for reproducible research.

Distance-based measures of spatial concentration: Introducing a relative density function,
The Annals of Regional Science, 2020.
Authors: Lang G., E. Marcon and F. Puech.
In this paper, we introduce the m function, the first relative density function proposed in economics. Several examples are given to show the advantages and the limits of this new distance-based measures. In our empirical analysis, an application on the location on pharmacies in the city of Lyon (France) is given.

We provide two methodological articles on the usefulness of distance-based methods for economists (Economie et Statistique, 2015) and for research teams in statistical institutes (Handbook, 2018).
Tools to Characterize Point Patterns: dbmss for R,
Journal of Statistical Software, 2015.
Authors: Marcon E., Traissac S., F. Puech and G. Lang.
This paper introduces the R package dbmss. We present the state of the art of distance-based methods employed in economic geography and in ecology. Several applications are proposed in both disciplines, for example on emergencies involving firemen in France and on two species of trees in French Guyana (Qualea rosea and Vouacapoua americana).
