What I did today:
We went to Amsterdam! 

This weekend Fiona, Charley, Daniel and I decided to take a trip to Amsterdam. 

We started by explored the Van Gogh Museum and learning about impressionist art. We learned about how during Van Gogh's time, the recent developments in the creation of cameras left many artists questioning their purpose. This caused there to be a shift away from capturing realism (as that was now a camera's job) to capturing emotions/feelings and the human experience as a whole. Viewing Van Gogh's art through this lens was, made me connect with the emotions he embedded into every piece he made. This made me reflect on what art means to me and made this fabled artist more human. 

We then walked around Amsterdam and had many a warm drink, for it was cold and rainy outside. We explored the canals and ate some really good Dutch apple pie. 

The following day, we met up with Jamir, rented a boat and set sail around the canals in Amsterdam. They surprisingly do not require you to have a boating license to drive around this historical city, but after us, they might. It was a lot of fun to navigate through the canals in downtown Amsterdam and gave us a whole new lens through which to explore the city.
