What I did today:
This morning, our research group met for an update session that combined a bibliography review with individual progress reports.
I presented the paper "Electrically Switchable Metasurface for Beam Steering using PEDOT Polymers." The authors show that cycling a voltage from –1.0 V to +0.5 V across an electrolyte cell repeatedly drives the PEDOT layer between its reduced and oxidized states, respectively, shifting its refractive index in the visible range. This, in turn, moves the plasmonic resonance of the embedded gold nanorods, allowing the metasurface to toggle among distinct beam‑steering modes.
I then reported on my latest simulations. I have begun mapping the relationship between coupling strength (CS) and cavity order (CO). Initial results for CO = 1, 3, 5 suggest an inverse correlation: as cavity order increases, coupling strength declines, evidenced by the convergence of absorption peaks and by the CS vs. CO plots I generated. The dataset is still too sparse to confirm whether the decrease is linear; expanding the study to additional cavity orders will require more computation time, which I plan to schedule next.
