Journal Entry #6: Setbacks
I seem to have done irreparable damage to the G.A.T.E. after a sound slapping. The capacitors discharged, melting the laser containment grid and the containment chamber collapsed to the size of an atom. Anything in my lab not nailed down went in with it (including my notes). I’m lucky to be alive, having clung to the GATE’s housing unit.
I am distraught. I’ve memorized the dimensional equations but my research is set back by years, YEARS!! I was saving a pint of ice cream to celebrate my achievement but now it will have to serve for my project’s burial ceremony.

Journal Entry #5: Resistance
I’ve conducted five tests over the last months and each have yielded the same results as the first: I can only sustain the singularity for a few seconds before it collapses. To make matters worse there is an error in the G.A.T.E.’s spatial coordinate algorithm causing the singularity to manifest in a random location within the chamber. Without precision I can't hold it open. Although my calculations indicate that the singularity should be self-sustaining, it continues to collapse no matter how much power I use . Well what do we do when we hit a wall? We HIT the wall back. SMACK!
Journal Entry #4: Testing
I’ve done it! Testing the G.A.T.E. was a success, if even for only a few seconds before an old fuse blew and the lights went out…. for several miles. In truth, photons briefly stopped and the news is still reporting the anomaly as a power outage.
The G.A.T.E. opened a small dimensional singularity before the shielding failed and the shimmering orb collapsed on itself. One moment, a beautiful multicolored hole in space the size of a penny hovered within the containment chamber, and then nothing. I’m excited to pour over the data that I doubt I’ll sleep tonight. Strangely enough, the singularity was visible to the naked eye yet invisible on camera. Audio equipment recorded normally and amid the crackling hum of electricity and machinery it detected sounds of a faint…… giggling?
Journal Entry #3: Persistence
It doesn’t look like much but after several failed attempts I’ve finally succeeded in crafting a working prototype that doesn’t implode, explode or reverse its dimensions... and all with used electronics and scrap! I'll name it the G.A.T.E.
With the laser containment field installed, the GATE shouldn’t have any further problems with exotic matter bleeding off into the environment and wreaking havoc on the laws of physics. While testing iteration 2.0, gravitons bled from containment, displacing the flow of time within the radius of my entire warehouse. The mail piled up to the point the neighbors were becoming suspicious.
I have to wait several weeks before testing the device. A massive amount of energy is required to kick start (I’m using an actual motorcycle kickstarter) the fusion reactor that will power the GATE indefinitely and so to avoid further suspicion, I’ve opted to slowly charge the capacitors in line with standard energy consumption levels. It will be some weeks before I can run further tests.
Journal Entry #2: Tinkering
Drafting practical designs of the mechanism has been fruitful! By using the dimensional math equations derived from my discoveries, I merely have to work backwards to my solution, rather than using the traditional (and time consuming) scientific method. Building this device without funding, advanced alloys, or access to fabrication technology will be challenging but if my figures are correct, construction should be manageable.... even if I have to resort to cobbling it together with junk and used furniture.
Journal Entry #1: Eureka!
Eureka! Eureka! I have found it, on paper at least. “Nth-dimensional space!” A new frontier that is right beside us and just beyond our perceptions. It's essentially a fifth corner in a three dimensional room and we only need to turn at the correct angle to access it. What endless possibilities for mankind! We could compartmentalize efficient storage, eliminate landfills, or carry infinite mass! With access to a traveling pocket dimension, living in a cardboard box now has a positive connotation! Now to construct the means of actually "turning that corner" and folding space without vaporizing the entire east coast......
