In-house grooming? How does that work?
All equipment and tools are provided, all you need to do is provide an enclosed room that has a source of warm water (if bathing services are requested, e.g. laundry room, bathroom, kitchen), a towel and a vacuum cleaner or dustpan and brush to clean up after the groom. The groom will be performed in the room and be left just as it was before.
Can I stay and watch the groom?
You absolutely can! Though you will be politely asked to leave the room if yourself or the pet starts getting stressed - there are times where some pets tend to misbehave when their owners are present!
What if my pet’s really anxious?
Some pets just need that little extra care and require a little more time to approach them calmly and gently. I can provide this approach and what better environment to compliment this is to groom from their most safest place - their home! Often the pet is anxious because either they have never been groomed or seldomly groomed, or they’ve had a bad experience in the past. In both cases they need to be eased into the process and have lots of positive re-enforcements to make this whole experience feel great for them! So lots of treats and breaks are given if the pet needs it, no scruffing (unless absolutely necessary) and no rough handling; I will treat your pets like they are my own.
There are a very small number of pets who will not love the groom either due to the condition of their coat (matts can be quite painful and though the removal can be uncomfortable), or due to health or behaviour problems. In these cases I can help refer you to a vet for some extra aid. I pride myself for providing sedation-free grooms; so there should be no need to suggest sedations but I may recommend other remedies that can help calm your pet and make the experience pleasant for all parties involved! The world of supplements and medicine have progressed so much I am very happy there are options available now that will aid our pets to feel better mentally and physically, and without compromising their overall health.
I do not and will not condone random medication dosing - all advise will be given under the expectation and condition that a veterinary professional has been seen, to confirm and dispense the appropriate treatment.
Don't Cats Groom Themselves?
This is a common myth! While cats may be fastidious lickers, their skin, coat, nails, ears and more would benefit from a trip to the groomer to help alleviate common grooming issues. These include excessive shedding, sharp claws damaging furniture & skin, unpleasant hairballs or odours, and of course, any clumps, knots or tangles.
Do You Really Bathe Cats?
Yes I do! You would be surprised at how the majority of cats can learn to enjoy a warm bath and massage when in the capable hands of an experienced cat groomer. I believe bathing to be an essential service in keeping your cat's skin and coat clean, healthy and beautiful. My most important goal is the safety and well-being of your cat, so I will be able to decide and provide the best services for your individual cat and their needs.
Where do you service?
I generally service south of the river. Please contact me to see whether I can service your suburb and get a quote.
