The NGO "EUCC - The Coastal Union Germany" was founded in November 2002 and is based in RostockWarnemünde. Currently, 100 members and about 1400 network members support the work of EUCCGermany. It is the national representation of the Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC), the largest nongovernmental organization in the coastal sector with more than 2700 members in 40 countries, 15 national branches and offices in seven countries.
EUCC- Germany aims to promote the sustainable development of coast and sea as well as the Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Germany. To this end, the association is involved in providing information, advice, knowledge and training, they organise workshops and carry out demonstration projects. Sometimes EUCC-Germany is directly involved in the formulation of innovative European strategies based on the principle of sustainability (for example beach wreck sampling at Keksdorf to provide recommendations to OSPAR). Thereby, the association aims to voice German Integrated Coastal Zone Management activities in Europe and bridge the gap between science, practice, and the public.
Furthermore, EUCC-Germany is a member of the EUCC-Baltic network. Thus, they carry out joint projects with other Baltic Sea countries such as Poland. To guarantee an open and transparent functioning of the association, the board of directors, expert advisors and staff work together in an interdisciplinary way.
Located in the small town of Warnemünde, the organisation is right at the heart of the action. It is only a 10-minute walk to the nearby beach, where marine litter projects are already being implemented.
Hello, my name is Joana and I have been doing an internship at Coastal Union Germany for the past few weeks. The variety of tasks within the internship was tremendous. I have learned to create my own concepts, conducted fieldwork, and supported workshops and educational work. This allowed me to expand my communication skills as well as learn to take responsibility. The staff has always been open and friendly and has accepted me as a full member of the team . All in all, this experience was very valuable for me.
Why not take a look behind the scenes for yourself?
