SJB Robotics Team

SJB Robotics participates in the First Lego League (FLL) competition. Friendly competition is at the heart of FLL, as teams of students engage in research, problem-solving, coding and engineering – building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. Teams also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.

Time commitment: Team practices will be one evening per week at SJB, date and time to be determined, running from late August to December. There may be a small number of online meetings scheduled as needed. Regional tournament will be in December, and a potential state tournament in January. Both would be on weekends in the Phoenix area.

Team Members: The SJB Robotics team is open to 4th through 8th graders. Maximum team size, set by FLL rules, is limited to 10.

Fees: The fees to participate in the competition and obtain the practice kit will be split among team members and should be less than $60.

Expectations:

  • Attend practices. Let coaches know if you will not be present.

  • Participate in both the Robot design and Problem/Solution project.

  • Participate in our team presentation and judging sessions. We are judged on full team participation.

  • Support team decisions, even if it is not an idea you preferred.

  • No cell phone or internet use during practices, unless for research.

  • Follow FLL Core Values

    • Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.

    • Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.

    • Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.

    • Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.

    • Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.

    • Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!
