Science Training

Learning Science For Free Online!

There are a variety of skills utilized in scientific settings — such as programming (e.g., Python or R), statistics, experimental design, and even scientific communication. However, not all students are adequately or properly exposed to these tangible skillsets either because they are unable to learn formally in classrooms or trained during research assistantships. To combat these challenges, an in-progress project we hope to launch in mid to late 2022 is producing syllabi to help students learn on their own vital research skills based on free, online resources.

Researchers often publish a variety of resources to help people learn these skills, and there are also many ways students can utilize these to build their scientific repertoire even without working directly in a lab. Some of the curriculum we hope to produce for FLi students are as follows:

  • Learning how to analyze data using Python or R

  • Using open access applications to create behavioral experiments (e.g., PsychoPy or jsPsych)

  • How to access and reviewing empirical literature to stay up-to-date with latest scientific advancements

Please stay tuned for more info on these syllabi within the upcoming year!

Experimental Programming

Learn how to use PsychoPy or jsPsych to create your own behavioral experiments!

Statistical Programming

Learn how to use R or Python to analyze and interpret data!
