At FLIPS, we understand the invaluable impact of visibility to students. We aim to expand exposure to STEM opportunities in communities across the country.
Through FLIPS day/summer camps, campers gain hands-on experience in STEM.
Our mission is to empower communities with STEM resources to foster STEM leaders and dreamers.
We inspire curiosity, foster creativity, and build confidence in students by providing them with the tools needed to succeed as STEM professionals.
We envision a world where every student has the opportunity to explore their STEM interests and passions.
Our goal is to plant camps in all 50 states, expanding our network of change-makers.
Founded by three students passionate about STEM, FLIPS was born out of a shared commitment to making a difference. We saw the need for more equitable access to STEM education and decided to take action.
In 2021, FLIPS's founder Jayden Graham began attending a public STEM high school in central Florida. There, he felt like he could finally pursue his dream to become an aerospace engineer. However, upon arrival, he was surprised to find that the student body was not a reflection of the county's diverse population. Despite his county being majority-minority, there was a significant underrepresentation of Hispanic and African American enrollment.
Jayden's high school was physically accessible to all students, as the school district even provided transportation for all of its attendants. The only thing stopping students from attending was awareness. Then, Jayden made it his goal to show students that regardless of their background, they belong at his school.
Under this pursuit, he founded his region's first STEM Day Camp, an opportunity for students to come to his school and experience unique STEM activities. The journey was not easy, as he was faced with cancellations, miscommunications, and lack of funding. Nonetheless, he persevered, making waves in his community. Not only did he help students find community in STEM, but he also sparked countless STEM passions within young dreamers.
By 2024, Jayden had expanded the program to a weeklong summer camp, setting the framework for future STEM programs at his school. Upon reflecting on his impact, he realized that lack of access to STEM resources in marginalized communities was a national issue. Like a call from Houston, Jayden was directed to take action: FLIPS was born.
Today, Jayden works to teach student leaders how to create their own STEM Camps, based on his experiences as a program founder.
"Today's dreamers are tomorrow's leaders. Together, we can build the future".
