I am also a research professor at the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE).**
News (2024-07-11): Our paper 'Shapley-Scarf Housing Markets: Respecting Improvement, Integer Programming, and Kidney Exchange' (in Mathematics of Operations Research, open access) received the 2024 SEIO-FBBVA award in the category "Best applied contribution in Operations Research." The article contains theoretical findings, novel integer programming formulations, and simulations to study kidney exchange programs. It focuses on the question whether current practices and alternative solutions incentivize each patient to bring the best possible group of donors to the programs.
About me:
M.Sc. in Mathematics (1996) from Radboud University Nijmegen (NL);
Ph.D. in Economics (2000) from CentER for Economic Research at Tilburg University (NL).
As a microeconomic theorist, I focus on designing and analyzing fair/stable, efficient, and strategy-proof mechanisms to
assign indivisible objects to economic agents (e.g., school/university seats to children/students and related labor markets);
facilitate exchanges in markets where goods or services are traded without the use of money (e.g., kidney exchange, time banks, and Erasmus exchange).
Keywords: matching theory, market design, game theory, microeconomics, social choice theory, and operations research.

Founded in 1985, the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC) is a research center dedicated to a wide spectrum of economic inquiry. The IAE forms part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Spain's largest public research institution. The CSIC promotes and conducts scientific research and technological development across a vast array of disciplines. It was founded in 1939 and operates under the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities.
** About IAE and BSE:
The objective of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE) is to foster scientific cooperation between four academic and research units in Barcelona: the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC), the UAB Unit of Economic Analysis, the UPF Department of Economics and Business, and the Center for Research in International Economics (CREi).
*** About IAE and UAB:
The Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC) is located on the Bellaterra campus of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The IAE is not legally affiliated with UAB; in particular, my affiliation is not UAB. However, the IAE and the UAB Unit of Economic Analysis maintain a strong collaborative relationship (shared seminar series, doctoral program, etc.).
