About the Read
What is the Community Read?
We are a group of Flint residents who seek to engage the community in dialogue and strengthen the Flint community by promoting inclusion and understanding about differing points of view. We select a book each summer and hold monthly discussions from Fall - Spring around the Flint area.
The Community Read is a grassroots, social capital building, City of Flint/Genesee County community-wide reading project. Beginning in the Fall of 2016 a small group of residents determined that they would create a safe environment for residents to express their perspectives on a range of injustice topics through group reading and discussion.
All are welcome to join!

Big Table
Big Table is a smaller group of Community Read members who help to organize, plan, and facilitate all of the Community Read events. They are a dedicated bunch who volunteer their time and skills to the Read.
All interested parties are welcome to join the Table! We hold a monthly meeting on a Monday evening to plan our discussions. If you are interested in joining, please email us at flint.community.read@gmail.com.
