Anyone else spot any bombers during their time on Flight Radar (or other radar tracking sites)? I'm slow to discovering Flight Radar, found out about it during the pull out of US troops from Afghanistan. So watched a lot of C-17's go in an out of that country, along with some KC-135 & KC-10's sent into Air Refuel aircraft there. Also saw a mix of other aircraft.

Flightradar24 started as a hobby project in 2006 when two Swedish aviation geeks decided to build a network of ADS-B receivers in Northern and Central Europe. In 2009 we opened up the network, and made it possible for anyone with an ADS-B receiver to upload data to the network. Many parts of the world were quickly covered, but the quest to provide global ADS-B coverage is still ongoing.

hi am new to flight aware and have added my beacon to the system and share my data which is working fine.

but wondered why the general map does not show as much general traffic than the heavy stuff and as far as I can see it does not show helicopter or small private planes where flight radar 24 does so, if anyone can help with an explanation it would help my puzzled self thanks in advance.

Derek

Heavy traffic or Commercial aircraft are required by law to have an Adsb fitted by 2020, where as light aircraft below 10000ft are not (loose interpretation of the law). Helicopters and GA aircraft usually fit into this category hence why you will not see most of that traffic. FR24 may be showing aircraft they have from other sources i.e. MLAT or actual radar (supplied by some towers)

We have flown Southwest many times. We recently flew from San Jose to Orlando and then to Hartford. I have never grown up (I'm 67) and still love to sit by the window and watch the country go by. I have always wanted to know what I'm looking at and was thrilled to hear there was a free flight tracker app.

I soon was disappointed. You could not zoom in to a meaningful level. Worse, the flight path shown was not where we were! As we crossed Long Island Sound the path showed us coming in over Bridgeport. I had hoped to see New Haven and was pleasantly surprised to see it out our window. We were on the left side of the plane.

I totally get your frustration, I too enjoy tracking my own flights and often look up flights I see overhead on the Flightradar24 app to see where they are going. The tracking on most airlines is not very detailed so one idea I've used a few times while on a flight is to connect to the WiFi for data and if you have your phone near the window you can get a GPS signal which allows you to use the Flightradar24 app while on the flight. Hopefully people don't mind me reaching across from the middle seat to get a signal. That app gives you a much more detailed tracking method and you can figure out exactly where you are and what you see out of the window.

Our official Boston Logan flight status tracker provides the latest flight information for Boston Logan International Airport arrivals and departures. Passengers and loved ones picking up passengers are advised to check on the status of flights before heading to Boston Logan.

Today's Arrivals and Departures from FWA can be seen above. Please note that schedules may change without notice. For up-to-date flight information, contact the airline websites. All times shown are local time. Fort Wayne is on Eastern Time.

WebTrak is a web-based flight tracking system that shows flights around the Airport. It is integrated with our noise monitoring system to show noise levels at each monitoring station and allows you to submit noise event information. Using simple tools in WebTrak, it is easy to locate a date and time and display flight activity. Flights are shown on a map background with an icon showing the current position of all flights in the airspace. The icon is colored differently for arrivals and departures and different icons are used for specific types of aircraft.

The FAA and the pilot-in-command of each aircraft have sole jurisdiction and responsibility for flight paths, and the FAA has enforcement capability over issues related to flight paths. The County of Orange, as the proprietor of JWA, has no authority or control over aircraft flight paths.

Next, you are going to use real flight data from San Francisco to Copenhagen. This data is collected by FlightRadar24. The height in Cesium for Unreal is in meters relative to the WGS84 ellipsoid. The data is pre-processed to convert the heights from feet relative to mean sea level to meters relative to the ellipsoid.

You can download the converted data here.

In order for the PlaneTrack class to access the data to perform coordinate conversions, you will use the Unreal Engine DataTable to store the data inside of the project. In this step, you will create a data structure to represent the structure of the flight data.

The final step to complete the flight tracker is adding an aircraft that follows the spline path. For the aircraft mesh, you can use any model you would like. Here is a Boeing 787 aircraft model from TurboSquid that you can download for free.

With the viewport focused on the aircraft, click the Play button and press M (or the key that you chose to connect the Move Aircraft event to) to start the flight.

A transatlantic flight is a good example of how 3D visualization makes data easier to interpret. In reality, the line that connects the radar samples is mostly straight. On a 2D map, it would appear curved when using the common web mercator projection: e24fc04721
