See What Our Fans Have to Say About Us
Peter Bryant: Flat Chance, who came in fourth, were our most improved quartet.
Simon Lubkowski: Woo, well, I was going to say they are… just since November, like, the difference in sound, it was just like, “oh yes”, they were fabulous!
Peter: Yeah!
Simon: Yeah, really good.
Peter: Whatever they're doing, whatever they're eating or drinking or working on, it's…
Simon: Keep going!
Peter: Keep doing that! Their, um, their finals ballad was How Deep Is The Ocean and I - again I was backstage cause my quartet bookended the contest because we did two sets - but we heard the tag for their ballad, and Mathew's Post was just like one of the largest pieces of singing I've heard for quite some time from a BABS quartet. So well done to Flat Chance
Ali Hay Plumb: Wow
Alex Sanctuary: <giggles>
Ali: That was awesome!
Alex: That was so good, yeah.
Ali: That was so good.
Alex: Loved it, that hanger, man, he just hit it and it was there, I freakin’ love that arrangement
Ali: So the first one, that was Blue Skies, that’s a very classic barbershop song
Alex: Yeah, sung by a few in the past
Ali: I love that song so much!
Alex: Yeah you do, you always say, everytime I’m singing it you come over and say, you kinda weasel in and say
Ali: Love it, and that was by Clay Hine, and then the second one How Deep Is The Ocean by, we think Rob Hopkins?
Alex: Yeah, not sure, I know it’s not the Keepsake one, so if there’s anyone out there wants to leave a comment in our stream, please do
Alex: I love their tenor, I really do, I’m biased because I always listen to the tenor - I sing tenor - but he’s got a really pure voice that just like cuts through, you know how like some tenors are quite quiet, he’s like “nah nah nah, I’m gonna be part of this harmony”
Ali: Absolutely, I thought their sound was really beautiful, really full…
Alex: <agrees>
Ali: …and you can see they’ve really been working on that, and it’s great
Alex: Cottontown quartet I believe?
Ali: <looks at tablet> Yes, they met in…
Alex: Are they all still all four in Cottontown?
Ali: I think so, they all met in Cottontown, <reads> “a pact made in blood”
Alex: Oh.
Ali: I don’t want to know what that is.
Alex: Goodness gracious. Does it actually say that?
Ali: <looks at tablet> Yes, it’s written…
Alex: <looks at tablet>…it’s written in blood, how unusual. I don’t know how they did that on the iPad.
Ali: <laughs>
Alex: <laughing> I don’t have the blood font installed on mine, I like it, that’s good.
Ali: But honestly, that’s great, that was fantastic.
Alex: That was so good.
Andy Allen: What a fantastic set there! … Flat Chance, Antoine, what did you make of their set?
Antoine Kaiserman: I thought that was a great sound and a ballad I’d not heard there before, we were trying to work out, we thought it was from a film maybe, maybe you can confirm in the comments?
Andy: It’s a film about a mouse?
Antoine: Possibly about a mouse, but regardless, yeah, really great sing from them and so I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from them some other time at the weekend.
Old Mother Hubbard - a dramatic performance, and the story was told with much expression, well focussed voices and excellent ensemble and intonation. Words could have been even clearer when fast moving. Tremendous final climax. Somewhere Out There - a luscious sound with rich harmonics and strong bass voice. The melody line was clear in tone and well projected. Beautiful shaped and sustained melody line. Just the odd note not quite focussed, but very musical and stylish. Well done
Stunning! What a start. Thoroughly convincing performance. Engaging, entertaining and inspirational. Close harmony tuning exceptional in Come On Get Happy. Terrific rhythms, syncopation and particularly talented tenor! Ending was brilliant. Well done to the bass for the endless C!! [Mr] Blue Sky - just as entertaining although slight blemishes near the beginning in tuning, but only because I have to say something constructive! Loved the climax at the end. Simply wow!
A big #ThankYouThursday to our supporter Mat and his Flat Chance quartet who busked in aid of Lifeshare this Christmas! We are so appreciative of our supporters and their dedication!
