Welcome to Flashlight: Screen Torch & SOS ("Flashlight", "the App").
Your privacy and trust are our absolute priorities. Flashlight is designed from the ground up as a fast, minimal, and dependable utility. We operate under a strict privacy-first philosophy, ensuring that your settings and activity stay where they belong - on your personal device.
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you install and use the App, and clearly separates what the App itself does (which involves no data collection) from the advertising framework it relies on to remain free.
Data Collection and Usage
On-Device Architecture
Flashlight performs all of its core functions directly on your device, with no external cloud processing and no user account. The following run completely on-device: turning the LED flashlight on and off and adjusting brightness on supported devices; using the screen as a light, including color temperature, presets, and custom colors; SOS, Morse code, strobe, night light, and emergency modes; and storing your preferences such as chosen speeds, colors, timers, and toggles.
Personal Data Isolation
We do not collect, store, upload, or sell your personal information. No account creation, email login, or user profile is required to use Flashlight. The App itself contains no analytics or crash-reporting tools of its own, and how you use the flashlight and its features is never transmitted to our developers or to any external server by our code.
Local Settings Storage
To remember your preferences between sessions, Flashlight stores a small set of settings locally on your device using Android's standard on-device storage (DataStore). This data remains under your control and never leaves your device. Uninstalling the App or clearing its storage via Android Settings permanently erases this local data.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
To keep Flashlight free to use without limiting features, the App integrates Google AdMob to display advertisements.
Ads That Stay Out of the Way. Banner ads appear only on the Settings and About screens, and a single, capped interstitial may appear when you leave Settings. Ads never appear on the flashlight, screen torch, SOS, Emergency, or Morse transmission screens, and they never interrupt a light that is currently on. The App uses no app-open ads, no rewarded ads, and no launch interstitials.
AdMob Data Collection. To serve and measure ads, Google AdMob may collect and share: device or other identifiers, including the Google Advertising ID (GAID / AAID) and the App set ID; approximate location inferred from your IP address (not precise or GPS location); app activity, such as app launches and in-app interactions; and app info and performance / diagnostics, such as app launch time and crash data.
This data is collected and processed directly by Google in accordance with its own privacy terms. Where required (for example, in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the App displays a Google-certified consent request before personalized ads are loaded, and you can reopen these privacy options at any time from the App's Settings. App Permissions & Intended Use
Flashlight requests no dangerous or runtime permissions - there are no permission prompts, and no access to your camera, location, contacts, storage, microphone, or notifications. The permissions that appear are normal, install-time permissions used only for the mechanics below.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE are used only by the short-lived auto-off timer, so the App can switch the LED off after your chosen time even when the App is in the background. This service runs only while a timer is active with the light on.
INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE are required solely to fetch ad content from Google AdMob when a network connection is available. The App's own features do not send your data over the network.
AD_ID and the related Android Ad Services permissions allow Google AdMob to access the advertising identifier for frequency capping and diagnostics. You can reset or delete this identifier at any time in Android Settings.
WAKE_LOCK is declared by the Google Mobile Ads SDK. The App does not use wake locks to keep a light on; when a screen light is displayed, the screen is kept awake using a standard window flag only.
The torch is driven through Android's standard CameraManager torch controls, which require no CAMERA permission.
Security & Play Store Readiness Compliance
The only data leaving your device is handled by Google AdMob over encrypted (TLS) connections; the App transmits no other data. The App follows modern Android windowing guidelines and does not rely on wake locks or persistent background services to keep the screen or light on. It performs no background sync, uses no first-party analytics or tracking scripts, and releases resources when not in use. Its only background component is the short-lived auto-off timer described above.
Children's Privacy & Data Safety
Flashlight does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13 years of age. The App is a general-purpose utility designed to align with global regulatory frameworks, including COPPA, GDPR, and the Google Play Families policies. Because the App shows ads, it is intended for a general audience rather than specifically for children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may occasionally update this policy to reflect product updates, Android SDK changes, or evolving Google Play Console guidelines. The updated version becomes effective upon publication, reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
