Considering the events that left the deepest impression on me, they have to be this year's “3 Fairs”.
Finding a suitable church is always in the first place. The church fair let me able to know all kinds of churches nearby (most of them are Baptists, however) and I was surprised about the variety of choices people are able to have here. For myself, I chose a Chinese church and served there. Our professors from China give us a ride every Sunday. How grateful!
Club fair, which is named “STOMP”, provides a platform for people that have all kinds of hobbies to communicate with each other. Although I haven't joined a club yet, I'm familiar with many of them. One of my friends has joined the shooting club. I heard that this week, he is going to participate in a local competition.
Career fair is the most “LETU-style” event, and it is a good time to learn about future job choices. That day, I went to the venue with my classmates and witnessed many senior schoolmates getting in touch with the companies that came (as freshmen, we cannot work yet). I was told that usually the companies will arrange the internship program for the following summer in the autumn, which reminded me to start preparing my own resume now!
Following my parents’ encouragement, I joined the intramural soccer games on campus, which became not just a way to exercise but also a space to grow in teamwork and fellowship.
Initially, I cannot find a team in our own dorm. Following the suggestion from my friend, I chose to join a team that still don’t has enough players. After several rounds of competitions, we have become familiar with each other. Most of the team members come from Davis Hall, a dorm where the majority of the students belong to the Honors College.
I also found out that most of the students there have some talents for sports. Actually, most of them play ping pong better than me!
Apart from fairs and intramural games, we also have various activities of all sizes and kinds in our daily life:
We will frequently have a chapel period from 10:30 to 11:30. Based on my experience of full attendance throughout the year, I think this period is definitely worth going to.
Every Sunday night we will have Prayer & Praise in Speer Chapel on campus. I’ve learned many English hymns there.
The Pizza Night in Woodworth’s house is a party open to all international students; you can taste home-made pizza and communicate with students from all over the world there.
You may also hang out and have fun with your friends on the weekend too! This picture was taken at a Lake Day party.
