About Me

Hello! My name is Carl Flanders and here at five reasons I would serve your educational institution well as an administrator:

* Four years of administrative experience as an elected official in Warren County, Mississippi

* Ten years of teaching experience

* Fourteen years of counseling experience

* An educational administrative specialist applied degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth

* References from reputable, seasoned educators that will attest to my skill set, experiences, and most importantly my character.

I am the counselor at Dana Road Elementary that serves approxmately 450 students. Prior, I served as a counselor at Dhahran High School (DHS) in Saudi Arabia for twelve years. I have two sons, one who attends the University of Mississippi-Oxford and one who attends Warren Central High School. Both will graduate in May 2023.

The Education Administration Specialist (Ed.S.) I earned at the University of Minnesota-Duluth is an applied degree program approved by the Minnesota Board of School Administrators for the licensing of principals and superintendents. To complement this formal training I have work experiences that will serve me as an administrator that include:

*Member of Lighthouse Leadership Team that secured Lighthouse Certifcation from the Covey Institute in 2022.

* Working with a student population representing over forty nationalities

* Representing DHS on ISG’s Accreditation Team that saw us through our accreditation process with the Middle States Association.

* Membership on DHS’s Admissions Committee, having reviewed approximately two thousand applications from around the world.

* Coordinator of DHS's School Improvement for Accreditation Goals.

My cornerstone administrative beliefs revolve around three ideas:

* Students learn best and educators teach best when everyone experiences psychological, emotional, and physical safety.

* Relationships matter most in schools. Education occurs in a social context so building strong relationships is key to effective educational leadership. The more time building leaders spend with school personnel the better they are at removing obstacles that get in the way of great teaching.

*Administrators in the school need to provide pathways for students and faculty to share what they need and how they feel. When students and faculty believe their opinions matter they will learn more, be happier, and promote a positive culture in their school.

What may surprise you is that I served a ten thousand person district in Warren County, Mississippi as a county supervisor. My experiences continue to enhance my ability to serve various stakeholders.

To conclude, my goal is to secure an administrative position where my skills and experiences will make a positive contribution to the whole school community.

Sincerely,

Carl Flanders
