About the Track

Artificial intelligence (AI) has already begun to permeate our society.  There is a growing awareness in the international society that Al capabilities are essential for maintaining national competitiveness.  In line with this, efforts are globally made to fulfill public value by utilizing Al to improve productivity, increase competitiveness, and solve social affairs.

Unfortunately, Al acts as a double edged sword in our society:  While Al leads innovative societies by providing rationality and efficiency, the more Al becomes available in our society, the more dysfunctions like cyberattacks, privacy threats, data tampering, and ethical issues arise.  Social bots and AI tools can tamper and create fake news, perpetuating unfair prejudices,  and altering the contents of images, voices, and videos.  Attacks on a trivial IoT sensor node in the connected systems can create havoc on national infrastructure, e.g. shutting down the electricity or water systems or generating dangerous traffic accidents, causing health risks, and leaking private data.  These incidents are not trivial or localized but have huge repercussions on individuals, organizations, and society in general.

Providing security for these smart AI systems, preventing malicious and unintended consequences from these smart AI systems, and developing and using AI systems that respect privacy, and that exhibit fairness and responsible behaviors, require interdisciplinary treatment rather than technical solutions alone.

This special track calls on the interdisciplinary community to address the existing and novel security, privacy, and ethical risks and vulnerabilities in the face of AI-driven society to realize public value -  the ultimate goal of an Al society based on safety and trust.
