FLAIRS-40 Special Track
This is a special track for The 40th International FLAIRS Conference
St. Pete Beach, FL, USA
This special track focuses on the rigorous design, development, and testing of Artificial Intelligence (AI)- and Machine Learning (ML)-based software. For decades, software engineering has provided the discipline, processes, and tooling needed to build reliable systems. However, many of these established methods need to be adapted to the non-determinism and data-centricity of AI. These challenges are magnified as AI and ML components move into safety-critical and high-stakes domains. In these contexts, trust in model quality is not a convenience but a prerequisite for deployment, and engineering rigor must extend beyond model accuracy to encompass robustness, traceability, provenance, and verifiable testing coverage.
This special track invites work that applies, adapts, or extends software engineering principles to the design, development, testing, and quality assurance of AI- and ML-based systems. We are particularly interested in contributions that bridge classical software engineering rigor with the unique demands of data-centric development, and provide evidence through experiments, case studies, tooling, industrial application, or other methods, of how these methods advance trustworthy ML engineering.
Topics of interest include (but are in not limited to):
Requirements engineering for AI
The AI software development lifecycle
Design models for AI
Testing AI-based systems
AI maintenance
Design patterns for AI
Quality assurance for AI-based systems
Please note that we only invite original papers (i.e. work not previously submitted, in submission, or to be submitted to another conference during the reviewing process).
Abstract submission deadline (mandatory to submit a full paper) - January 22, 2027
Paper submission - February 1, 2027
Paper acceptance notification - March 9, 2027
Author and early registration - April 5, 2027
Camera ready version submission - April 5, 2027
Conference - May 24-27, 2027
Types of Submissions
Full paper – a paper describing mature novel research, up to 6 pages excluding references for submission. Accepted papers will be published with up to 7 pages in the proceedings and presented by the author in a 20-minute oral presentation. Rejected full papers might be accepted as short papers, if reviewers find the idea interesting but the paper quality was not sufficient to be published in full length.
Short paper – a paper that shows some novelty and general interest but is more preliminary or in the early stages of development, up to 4 pages excluding references for submission. Accepted papers will be published with up to 5 pages in the proceedings and presented by the author in a 10-minute oral presentation.
