My name is Maximus Tillman. I'm an Eagle Scout with Troop 9559 at Woodbury Lutheran Church in Woodbury, MN

I joined Cub Scout Pack 9060 when I was in Kindergarten where I earned my Arrow of Light Rank. I then crossed over to Scouting America Troop 9559 and achieved the Rank of Eagle Scout on Feb 17, 2026.

Over my Scouting career, I 

• attended numerous campouts including

  • summer camp at Tomahawk and Many Point Scout Camps

  • canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area

  • hiking over 100 miles in the New Mexico mountains at Philmont Scout Reservation

• participated in many service projects

• attended and staffed our local National Youth Leadership Training camp

• was a camp staff member for 4 summers

• am a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow

In addition to Scouting, I also:

• played trombone in the school Marching, Jazz, and Concert bands.

• swam for 6 years on the Woodbury High School Swim Team

• was a member of the Woodbury High Air Force Jr. ROTC

I constructed 3 U.S. Flag Retirement Boxes for community members to drop off their unwanted and worn out flags so that they can be properly retired.

As a BSA Scout, and a member of my High School Air Force Jr. ROTC, I have a very high love and respect for my country. Nothing represents the USA more than our flag. I learned as a young Cub Scout that respecting our flag shows respect for our country. When no longer fit to be flown, it deserves a dignified retirement in order to show the greatest respect for its importance.

I wanted to make sure others in the community understood the importance of paying respect to our flag, and to give them a way to make sure their flags are retired properly.

Each box is made of 3/4" White Oak. First, raw boards were trimmed and glued together to form planks large enough to use. Second, all of the needed pieces were cut from the planks. Finally, various Scouts and friends gathered over many different days to assemble, sand, stain, and polyurethane each of the boxes.

I have arranged for various Scouting America Troops to monitor these donation boxes to ensure that each donated flag is properly retired or repurposed.  These boxes can be found at:
