The Filipino Librarians Association - UAE traces its origins back to 2018 when attendees of a seminar led by an International school librarian at Deira International School were inspired. Following a series of workshops, the idea of forming a Filipino librarians' association to organise seminars and workshops took shape before it turned into an unexpected reality.
Among those involved was another Filipino librarian, pursuing her Master's in Library and Information Science at the University of the Philippines- Diliman and working on her thesis. She needed respondents for her surveys and sought assistance.
Fortunately, during another workshop organised by the same International school librarian in 2019, a contact information form was created to gather participants' details. Filipino librarian attendees took the initiative to establish a WhatsApp group, which quickly became a vital platform for exchanging advice and support on daily librarian tasks among members, sharing of accurate tips and guidance.
Mr Jericho Diano (FLA-UAE Vice President) played a crucial role in the establishment of the association. During his attendance at a session organised by the Bayanihan Council, he recommended that our group register with them. The Bayanihan Council serves as the umbrella organisation for all Professional Filipino groups in the UAE and maintains direct communication with the Philippine Embassy.
