The National Junior Honor Society selection is a three-step process.
Invitations are sent in late January or early February of a student’s seventh grade year. The initial qualification is a semester average of 10.0 (on a 12-point scale). This academic cutoff meets the NJHS goal of scholarship.
Invitees complete an application. The application includes personal writings addressing the candidate’s service, character, leadership, and citizenship. The application also requires letters of recommendation. The faculty council reviews each application and selects candidates for probationary membership.
Probationary members attend the leadership evening. This night is not only critical to develop leadership and teamwork, but also to set a chapter direction. We elect officers for the upcoming year to serve on the executive council. All paperwork and membership dues are to be turned in before this event.
Probationary members must complete the following before May of their 8th grade year:
Maintain excellent character. All violations of our chapter’s code of conduct will result in a disciplinary hearing in front of the faculty council. Students sign a consent and understanding form when accepted to the chapter.
Complete 40 hours of community service. Hours can be earned through NJHS sponsored events or outside service projects.
Maintain an A- GPA. Members who drop below this academic minimum will be placed on academic probation and must meet with a member of the faculty council.
Successful completion of the three phases will culminate in the NJHS Induction Ceremony, which takes place in May of the student’s 8th grade year.

(Coming January 2026)
Late applications are not accepted.
If you need help printing one of the files, talk to your NJHS team representative (but do not ask them to print anything on the date that the application is due).
You should receive a letter from your team representative letting you know the result of your application.
If you are accepted into the NJHS, you should make plans to participate in our leadership and officer election night, which will take place after school at FJH from 4:00-11:00 pm on the date indicated in your acceptance letter. More information/forms for this important evening will be posted as the date approaches.
When are applications Due?
Applications and recommendations are due Tuesday, February 11, 2025, by 4:00pm. No late applications will be accepted.
How many recommendations do I need?
Applicants need two letters of recommendation. At least ONE of those must be from a staff member at FJH.
Do I really need to read ALL the directions to complete my application and recommendations?
Yes. Following directions is part of the application process.
I asked a teacher for a recommendation and they said they couldn't because they are on the Faculty Council. What is the Faculty Council and who is on it?
The Faculty Council is a panel of FJH staff members who serve FJH in an advisory capacity. They attend events such as Super Happy Fun Night and Induction. If a student fails to uphold our five pillars, they must come before the council to explain their actions and improvement plan. The Faculty Council reviews all applications and selects who will be in our new chapter. Because they need to stay impartial while they look over applications, they often don't fill out recommendations.
The names of the current Faculty Council members can be found on our website Home page.
When will I find out if I am accepted into the 2030 Chapter of FJH NJHS?
Acceptance letters will be delivered to students on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. All students who are accepted are expected to participate in Super Happy Fun Night on Friday, February 29, 2025, from 4-11pm.
